Chiropractic and Fibromyalgia
If you don’t know what “fibro” is, it is a condition characterized by some nasty, chronic symptoms that include fatigue and continuous radiating or shooting pain or burning muscle, tendon and joint pain. Sufferers also endure tender points on the neck, shoulders, chest, rib cage, lower back, thighs, knees, elbows and buttocks, along with increased sensitivity to pain, heat, cold, tough and bright lights. Fibro also brings sleeplessness, irritable bowel syndrome, headaches and “brain fog,” depression and anxiety. Pretty rotten line up, wouldn’t you say? And doctors don’t have a cure. They treat mainly with medication to mask the symptoms.
Now for the good news! I can help! Chiropractic has been show to significantly enhance the wellbeing of individuals with fibromyalgia. One study of 15 women who started chiropractic care showed that nine women had a 50% reduction in their pain symptoms, less fatigue and improved sleep quality, and the improvement continued one month afterward. I have multiple patients who have benefited greatly from adjustments and traction. One patient said, “I had so much pain, I could barely sit at my desk during the day. Now I can do my work without pain, and there is a dramatic drop in my neck pain.”
If you, or someone you know, is suffering from fibromyalgia, come and see me, or recommend a visit. You may find that chiropractic will make a tremendous difference in your quality of life.

Have You Ever Considered Nutraceuticals?
You are probably thinking, nutraWHAT?
Like pharmaceuticals, (drugs) nutraceuticals are, according to Merriam Webster, a foodstuff (as a fortified food or dietary supplement) that provides health benefits in addition to its basic nutritional value. Nutraceuticals have been shown to provide a variety of health benefits including combating free radicals, providing anti-inflammatory activity, helping maintain cholesterol levels and circulation, lessening menstrual cramping, easing joint pain and more.
At Pace Family Chiropractic, our services include one-on-one nutritional counseling and nutritional supplementation in addition to food sensitivity testing and lab testing for various gastrointestinal or metabolic conditions. We work with our patients to ensure that they are eating the right foods and that they are getting optimum nutrition. In addition, we offer a superior line of nutraceuticals by nutraMetrix, for those who need additional nutritional support, or natural alternatives to drug therapy for various health conditions.
I will be writing on some specific nutraceuticals that offer great health benefits in future blogs. Watch for them.

Don't Forget Baby!
Most people never think about infants and chiropractic, but listen to this: spinal adjustments frequently result in “immediate quieting, muscular relaxation and sleepiness!” Now, as a relatively new mom myself, I know THAT sounds like heaven to parents of infants. But wait, there’s more!
I adjust my own children regularly because I know the facts - the birth process alone is a traumatic event which can result in subluxations. In one study of 1,093 newborns, 298 had upper neck stress and early signs of scoliosis. These things can affect a child for the rest of their lives if left untreated. Many of my patients wouldn’t even be my patients if they had chiropractic care when they we infants and children. There are a myriad of conditions that can respond to chiropractic care: difficulty breast feeding; unbalanced face and skull development; foot inversion; nervousness; ear, nose and throat infections; allergies and sleep disorders; and projectile vomiting are just a few.
One doctor of chiropractor recommends six critical exams times in a child’s first year of life:
• After the birth process
• When the baby starts to hold up his or her head
• When the baby sits up
• When the baby starts to crawl
• When the baby starts to stand
• When the baby starts to walk
I want your children to have the best possible start at good health. Bring them in today for a consultation. A simple chiropractic check up now could make a huge difference in the quality of life for your child for years to come.

Here is a Handy Way to "Ice It" Without Those Cumbersome Cubes
Some of you may have heard me talk about Biofreeze. It is a product that I use, and often recommend to patients who have arthritis pain, sprains, strains, and aching muscles. It is a cold therapy gel that uses menthol as its primary ingredient, and it is extremely effective at reducing pain without the use of medication. As a matter of fact, the man who invented it was looking for ways to help his grandmother with her arthritis pain so that she did not have to use prescription meds!
Biofreeze reduces pain like icing does: it reduces blood flow to the site, and “tricks” the nerves so they don’t send pain signals to the brain. (It is more complicated than that, but that is basically what happens). The advantage of Biofreeze, which is a gel you rub on your skin, is that you can continue to move around and live your life while you are using it…you don’t have to sit with an ice pack on your injury. Plus, patients have found it to be more comfortable than ice therapy. Research has found that it offers two times the relief of ice and that its effects last longer too.
If you think it is something you would like to try, let me know. I always have some on hand at the office, and I can apply some to a sore spot at your next adjustment so you can test it out. If you find like it, you can purchase it right at our office.
I’m always looking for ways to help my patients stop having to load their systems with medications that cause side effects. Combined with your chiropractic treatments and protocols, Biofreeze is one more alternative that can put you on the path to natural wellness.

Parents Listen Up: Do Your Kids Have Ear Infections?
If they do, THERE IS HOPE! Read this remarkable story of a boy who had been on antibiotics for six years and scheduled for a second surgery:
A nine year old boy with chronic ear infections had tubes put in his ears five years prior to his first visit to the chiropractor. He was scheduled for another ear surgery, and was also going to have his tonsils and adenoids removed. After his FIRST chiropractic adjustment, the boy stopped complaining about his ears, and his tonsils and adenoids returned to normal size. His ENT doctor cancelled his surgery. At his five month checkup, the child remained free of ear infections, sore throats, colds, and was off medications completely!
I can give you other examples as well. A six-month-old baby with ear infections was scheduled for surgery. Within twenty-four hours of his first adjustment the infections had cleared, and the surgery was subsequently cancelled. Two girls, aged three and four, had ear infections and upper respiratory issues, and both resolved after one visit.*
Did you know that by the age of three, more than two thirds of all children have had one or more ear infections affecting the middle ear? The most common medical treatment for ear infections are: antibiotics, oral decongestants, and tubal surgery. Why put your child through all of this, when chiropractic presents an effective, natural alternative that will also offer a host of other health-giving benefits?
Call me today to schedule an appointment for a consultation. You owe to it your kids!
